Deleting an Index Entry

I'm creating an Index in a 300+ page document. I created a couple of Index fields that I'd like to remove from the Index altogether, but I can't seem to do so successfully. I tried removing that entry in the index that was created, but every time I "Update Fields" it gives me the same Index entry. There are too many references to that particular listing to go through and delete one-by-one in the document.

There's got to be an easy answer to this, but I'm missing it somewhere. I've searched this forum and Mactopia "help and how-to", but just can't find it.

Help! And thanks!

Hi Mary;

Unfortunately that can be a bit tricky depending on content, and you may
have to adjust the recipe if there are phrases or compound terms similar to
what you want to remove, but this should work using Find & Replace. Try it
on a duplicate of your file just to be safe :)...

Assume you want to remove " revenue " (without the quotes) from the index;

Make sure the non-printing characters (¶) are displayed.

In the 'Find what' field type: revenue^d
In the 'Replace with' field type: revenue

Hit Replace All

The ^d is a Special Character which represents a field - in this case, the
XE field that marks the preceding string as an index entry.

Hi Bob,

Thanks for your reply; I didn't realize you had done so, as I'd checked the "Email me when replies are posted" box ... and never got an email! Ah, technology!

Anyway, I will give your suggestion a try and report back. It certainly seems like it should do the trick!

Thanks again; I really appreciate your help!
