deleting characters

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)

I am a new MacBook user (from PC). On my PC, when I hit the delete key it deletes the character to the right of the cursor. On my Mac, when I hit the delete key it deletes the character to the left of the cursor. Is there a way to change the Mac setting so the delete functions as it does on the PC?

It depends on what keyboard you have - many detachable keyboard have both a
Delete as well as a Backspace key (although they may both be labeled
"Delete". In all probability you'd have noticed that so I'll assume
you're using a laptop. Hold the fn key while pressing Delete to elicit the
behavior you're looking for.
