Deleting/Cleaning Document Properties

D

Dave

I have fallen heir (drew the short straw at a meeting) to revising an
existing 300 page Word document. The complete document is 34 separate files
(chapters), each with different 'Properties' I need to delete or otherwise
remove these properties. For example, under 'Summary", there is a pretty
lengthy history of names, dates, and a lot of "et cetera" that needs to
be removed in the final version.

I would appreciate any ideas on how I can get rid of this material.

Thks much
Dave

If you are using Word 2007, you could make use of the

ActiveDocument.RemoveDocumentInformation()

utility with which inside the () you specify the type of information to be
removed (type that into the Visual Basic Editor and press F1 for more
information) You could incorporate that into a batch process to open each
of the documents in turn by modifying the code in the article "Find &
ReplaceAll on a batch of documents in the same folder" at:

In earlier version of Word, I think that you have to do it manually. Search
the Help facility for Remove Metadata to find out more.

Thank you Doug -
And thanks also for covering my error in not mentioning my version of Word -
(Office/Word 2003)

Wound up downloading an KB add-in to do the job. Worked fine.

One additional question if I might. I vaguely recall at some long past
reload of Word/Office I had the option of not including all these files by
default in a new doc. I don't find that in Tools/Options however. Did I
recall that option correctly, or was it just wishful thinking?

Thx again
Dave

Sorry, I do not know the answer to that question, but think that it may have
been wishful thinking as I do not recall any mention ever being made of it.

If it is an option, you may be able to modify your installation through the
Control Panel Add Remove Software facility.
