deleting columns

Why is it that when I delete a column in a Word table, it
also deletes any title/header rows that I have? This is
ridiculous. WordPerfect is so much easier.

It does that because you have merged cells in the heading row.

If you want to retain the heading row, select the range of cells that you
want to delete and right click and select Delete Cells and accept the
default shift cells left. You will then need to modify the width of the
heading row.

You can also temporarily split the table below the heading row(s), select
the column, delete or clear it, then rejoin the table.
