Deleting email when I dont want it to

Outlook is deleting emails when I do not ask it to. When an email is
highlighted (the light color highlight, not the dark highlight like when you
select it) and I move to another window or do something else on the computer
the email that was highlighted is gone and I dont know what happened to it.
Then the next email is highlighted and the same things happens all over again.

Can anyone please help?

Is your view set to see only unead messages?
Do you have email set to autopreview and to mark itself as read after a few
seconds?
