Deleting emails is really slow, but why?

I have a problem with my underliverable email folder. It has over 8000 emails
in it and it often gets like this and when i go to delete the emails it takes
ages to do. Around the 1 day mark nearly.

Does any one know of a quicker way of deleting emails faster? A third party
tool maybe?

Outlook 2003 with SP2 on an XPSP2 machine. 2.8ghz processor with 1gb of RAM.
