Deleting exchange email

I have a version of Outook 2007 that I'd like to "start over" with. I had an
exchange email account temporarily, no data I wish to save from it, and now
am trying to establish a POP account. I've made the POP the default and
trying now to delete the exchange account. When I try, I get an error
message that tells me that configuration info is being copied to the new
default file. Optimistically, I'm told that once the info is copied I can
then delete the account. However, this never happens (I've been trying of
and on for a week). Any hints as to how to get out of this loop would be
great, and I promise never to go back into it ever again.

Thanks in advance for your guidance.

Use the Mail applet in the Control Panel to create a new Profile, add a new
data file & the accounts, set it as default profile

Thanks DL. You solved my problem - and this was a much easier solution than
I was attempting.
