Deleting files

I am still using Word 97. After deleting a Word file from
Documents, the file still is listed in Word. When I try to
get rid of it, I am asked to locate it. Of course, the
file has been deleted and can't be found.

Is there a way to get rid of the reference to the file in
Word?

Terry, when you say the file is still listed in Word, where are you seeing
this list? On File/Open, or at the bottom of the File menu?

Assuming you're talking about the MRU list at the bottom of the File menu,
press Ctrl+Alt+Hyphen and click on the offending filename. Be careful with
this shortcut: it will remove *any* menu item you click on (but it's "used
up" after one click, and you can turn it off with ESC).
