When I try to delete email messages from my inbox a line is put through the
title. It does not go away. Then I "undelete" it to remove the line.
Nothing works as far as deleting the entire message. Thanks if anyone has
any suggestions.
There are many versions of Outlook. You're using all of them? If not,
specify WHICH version you use. Different versions exist because, well,
they are different.
That's how IMAP works. You *mark* the item for disposition of "delete".
That doesn't remove it from the list. Marking for deletion doesn't
physically delete it from the mail server. At a time of your choosing,
you purged the delete-marked items. Read:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imap
"E-mail clients using IMAP generally leave messages on the server until
the user explicitly deletes them."
Some IMAP clients will delete the marked items when you change focus to
another folder (if you enable that option). Some IMAP client require
the user to actually decide they really want those items deleted. In
Outlook, use its included help to search on "purge".
http://office.microsoft.com has a large how-to help section. Start at
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/help/FX100485361033.aspx. Select your
product in the Browse Help frame. Then pick the component within that
suite. Since you didn't mention WHICH version of Outlook that you have,
I select Office 2007 under Browse and then Outlook 2007 and did a search
on "purge" which led me to:
