Deleting highlighted text

Having highlighted a block of text, I used to be able to delete it by
pressing the delete key. Now, for some reason, it is asking me to enter a "Y"
or an "N" to confirm the delete.

Can I eliminate this confirmation step?

In Tools=>Options=>General in Word turn off both of the 'WordPerfect' choices to turn off the confirmation request.

A questions that begs to be asked, however, is how did the flag suddenly get
turned on, but we won't go there.

If you find that the Word settings change on you, for no apparent reason,
you can record a macro that sets all of the desired options, and use it as
an auto macro. See http://www.gmayor.com/installing_macro.htm.
