Deleting in word 97 for windows

Hello,
THis is probably a dumb question and I hope has a simple
answer. When I am working in a Word 97 document and want
to delete and item I have to press delete and then "Y" for
yes. I never had to press the Y before and I don't know
what I did to make it work that way or how to get it back
to normal. Can someone help out a computer dummie PLEASE.

Tools | Options | General: Clear the check boxes for both items that refer
to WordPerfect.
