Deleting items from Work Menu

I have some documents on the work menu that I would like to delete. (At
least one was sent to the trash long ago.) The help menu says to use
Cmd-Opt-minus, and then the cursor will turn into a minus sign, then go to
the work menu and click on the one you wish to delete. But when I try that,
nothing happens to the cursor. Any suggestions?

Larry,

When using the Cmd-Opt-minus combination to turn the cursor into a minus
sign, be sure and use the minus key that is above the regular keys. Do not
use the Keypad minus key.
