Deleting junk mail from junk mail folder

D

David Rocah

I love Entourage 2004's junk mail filter, which captures virtually all of my
junk mail. But I'd like to know if there's a way to delete all of the
messages that are quickly filling up my junk mail folder without them ending
up in the deleted items folder. I sometimes want to search the latter
folder for something I inadvertently deleted, and I'd rather it didn't get
filled up with junk mail messages, which I have no desire to keep in any
form. Is there a way to bypass the deleted items folder? Or a script that
permanently deletes all the junk mail in that folder?

Thanks,

David

I flush my junk mail all the time. The trick is to first select one
item then you can Select All (Cmd-A) and use the Delete button. If you
fail to select one the Select All is dimmed and will not work.

I hope this answers your question.

Hi David,

I think it's a shame that Microsoft forgot to include a "Empty Junk Mail
Folder" entry in Entourage's contextual menu, but that's not important right
now. I'd recommend using a schedule to automatically and periodically delete
your junk mail. Go to Tools>Run Schedules>Edit Schedule and create a new
schedule. Set an occurrence interval, and define "Delete Junk Mail" from
"Junk E-Mail" older than xx days" as the corresponding action. Enable this
schedule, and Entourage will automatically empty the folder at a given time.
Note the potential danger with this schedule: it will delete every item in
the Junk E-mail folder, including valid messages that were accidentally
classified as junk. Consider this when specifying the frequency and the
amount of days in your schedule.

I use a script called "Nuke Messages" by Philip Kearney. Assign a shortcut
to the script and it's easy to delete selected messages for permanent
deletion. There is no way to retrieve messages deleted this way so be
careful when using.

See "Add Keyboard Shortcuts" to assign a shortcut to a script.
