Deleting Junk Mail

I have created rules to permanently delete some of the incoming junk mail
but they do not always work and the mail finishes up in the junk mail
folder. I understand the rules don't work on emails which are in html
format. Messages in the junk mail folders are always converted
automatically to plain text and if I run the rule on them they do get
deleted!

Is it possible to create a macro (or another rule) which would run the
rule(s) to delete these messages once they are in the junk folder in plain
text? If so, I would appreciate your help in creating one as I have no
experience of writing a macro.

I gave up and I am using MailWasher. There are other such programs. It
seems to work a lot better than anything I could come up with.

Absolutely - a real antijunk filter is going to do much better than rules..
and be easier to maintain.

That's because the Junk E-mail filter runs before your rules do. That's by
design so that if you have rules that move messages to other folders, they
won't move junk.

Do you consider the junk-mail filter in Outlook 2003 to be a "real" filter. I've often wondered if I
should stick with it or try something else. It's far from perfect, but I don't know if others are
any better.

well enough for a number of people who just don't want to mess around with
configuring a better filter or are too cheap to spend any money (although
one of the best is free). If it doesn't, then there are several much better
options.

A lot of junk emails these days are graphics, presumably to get round things like Bayesian filters
which I assume only work on text. How well does spambayes cope with graphic-type junk emails?

because of the way bayes uses weighting and it's trainability, I think it
does pretty good.
