Deleting large amounts of email cause localdatabase to go out of sync

Email Client: Exchange

I have an issue which has been a thorn in my side for far too long and I am now desperately seeking some help.

I manage around 40 Entourage 2008 users with an Exchange 2003 account each. Mailbox sizes range from 100mb - 2gb.

When a user deletes a large amount of email (eg. 700+ emails), the process is so slow communicating that change to the server that the local database seems to get out of sync. The user is then presented with an error and told their password is incorrect when it isn't, and clearing the cache is the only way to get the mailbox online again. (ps. Clearing the cache in Entourage 2008 couldn't be more difficult to access in this situation when the mailbox is 'not connected'. 2004 was much easier.)

It's so frustrating for the user. They have no confidence in deleting mail themselves anymore.

Is this experienced by others generally?

v12.0 to v12.1.4, mac os x 10.5 to 10.5.5, i've hoped after every new patch that something gets fixed, but Entourage is just such a poor exchange mail client when compared to Outlook.

Do you have your Entourage users connecting to the back-end servers
hosting their accounts or to a front-end Outlook Web Access (OWA)
server? While on the same network as the server they should be
connecting directly to the back-end.

Hope this helps!
