The format shouldn't matter much as long as you edit it in Word.
If you want to delete manual line breaks (look like arrows pointing down and
left) or paragraph marks (¶), you can find them in "Edit > Replace (More) >
Special" (manual line break: ^l, paragraph mark: ^p).
Often, the manual line breaks or paragraph marks you want to get rid of have
a space right before them, while the "real" ones at the end of the paragraph
don't.
In that case, you can replace " ^l" with " ", or " ^p" with " ".
