deleting page-numbering

Inadvertently I asked for foot-of-page numbers for a Word document that already had top-of-page ones inserted. How do I delete one set of these? It's got to be simple, but there seems to be no means of doing it.

From the View menu select Header & Footer, go to the bottom of the page,
select the footer content & delete it just like any other.
