Deleting problem

Hello!

I have a problem in WORD when I highlight text w/ the
mouse and use the delete key the text does not delete?
However it will in other applications such as Excel,
Outlook, WordPad, etc.

I tried to change keyboards, not expecting it to work, but
I had to try it, and as expected it didn't matter.

Any Ideas what this is happening? The version of WORD is
2000. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
