Deleting Project Doesn't Delete Assignments

We are having a problem when we delete projects in Project Server 2007
sp1. When we delete a project the task assignments still appear in
the Resouce Center View Assignments by Project. That is not what we
expected, but going forward we can prevent that from happening by
removing resources from tasks before deleting the project. I am
interested to know what people think about that.

But now that we have deleted a project and we have these orphaned task
assignments, how do I get rid of them? They are messing up resources'
availability.
