Deleting Project Stored in SQL

Zac Maclean

During the Open process I can see a context menu that should allow me to
delete files listed in the SQL server, but it is greyed out. How would I go
about deleting whole projects from the SQL database?

Zac,

If it's greyed out you may not have permissions to delete projects. Are you the project server admin or do you have permissions to delete projects?

If you do have the proper permissions, you should be able to select a project from the list and click the big black X.

Not using Project Server. Project Professional files stored in SQL via
ODBC.

And... I have tried as Local Admin login which has full SQL privledges.

It's greyed out because that function is not capable of deleting projects from an ODBC data source.

Ok, so... What do I need to do? Write a SQL script to delete bad projects
or archive old ones?

Sounds like it. Remember, once a project is saved outside of the standard file or project server formats the MSProject UI can only deal with the data that's been put there. It's not smart enough (nor should it try to be) to know how you've setup your data store and how to manage project deletion.

I assume you are using MS Project Server 2004. If so, you must have
administrative rights (or at least the delete rights) in the Project Server
application. Ask you Project Server 2003 admin for these rights or to
delete the files for you.

Ed,

Just FYI, it's not a project server implementation. It's projects saved to SQL server via ODBC.
