deleting project tasks after importing to outlook

We've just started to use the function where you can import your tasks
from Project into Outlook.
Doing a little testing I discover that it seems that even if the task
is deleted in Project, and the plan republished etc, when the user
comes to import their tasks again, the deleted ones stay put.
Am I doing something wrong, and if so what?!
