Deleting sheets

I am creating complex spreadsheets as a template for a range of projects. In some cases, I need to be able to delete sheets as they are not applicable and sometimes contain sensitive information but the 'Delete Sheet' tab is gray and does not give me access. My spreadsheet is not protected as I need to allow other people to contribute to the data. Please help!

Is the workbook shared? Sheets can't be deleted in a shared workbook.

If not, are you sure that the workbook isn't protected (via
Tools/Protection/Protect Workbook...)
