Deleting text in Word 97

[James Johnston]

Why does word now ask for confirmation before allowing me
to delete a selected block of text? Until recently I could
hilite the text i wanted to delete and hit delete to
remove the text. Now when I try this I get a status bar at
the bottom the asks "Delete block? NO (YES)" How did this
get turned on? Thanks for the help.

Tools > options > general > uncheck the two Word Perfect options
