Delink Word Document

Chad

Hi All

This is my first post in the word forum. The word document I have
created is saved from a template which has links to an Excel
spreadsheet. When I go to open the word document the following
message appears

This document contains links that may refer to other files. Do you
want to update this document with data from the linked files Y/N

This document is made available to the general public and a question
upon opening will not be acceptable. How do you remove the links
while protecting the underlying data?

I have tried copying and pasting all the excel tables and pasting as
pictures but this does not solve the problem of linking. I have also
tried pressing Ctrl A to highlight the whole document and pressing
Ctrl - Shift - F9. This seems to have removed the links but not the
message when you open the document.

I am having trouble with this and any assistance would be very much
appreciated.

For your "next" post, you may want to include the version and update level
of the copy of Word you want the answer for. We support more than 20 Word
versions here, and we can only give you a very generic answer unless we know
which one you are using.

On the Edit menu you will find a "Links" item. Follow that and it gives you
the ability to delete the link while retaining the data.

Cheers

Hi

John thanks for the heads up on posting, I will be more specific next
time I enter. Using W - SP3 - 2003. Your solution did indeed break
all the links - good stuff. However when I save and close the
document I still get the "Links question" on open. Why would that be,
there are simply no links any longer. The document was saved from a
word template as a .doc maybe that has something to do with it but the
Edit - Links area is greyed out at the end of the process, so go
figure?

It is a bit of a mystery. Thanks so much for your suggestion.

Hello Chad,

Not that you aren't welcome here, but you've landed in a discussion group
for users of Mac versions of Word. Mac versions differ variously from PC
versions. Although several people here use both PCs and Macs (John is one),
in most instances it's likely that more people in a PC group will have
experienced your specific problem. Here's where all the groups are listed:

Hi Clive

Thanks also for your response. I have seen how savagely people get
treated when they double and triple post on Google so I did not want
to go there. After I realised I was in a Mac group it was too late,
message posted and sleeping dogs are best left. I don't think there
is a solution for this one. Still I will search where you pointed and
see if I missed anything.

Thanks very much for the link.
