Hello there,
I have donated a mde to a friend, who has in turn shown it to others that
have expressed interest in purchasing it. As I understand it from this
newsgroup, as long as they have a purchased copy of Access, they have bought
the licensing necessary and that no royalties must be paid. Eventually, if
all goes well, I will buy VSTO and be able to distribute to people who do not
have a purchased copy of Access, once again royalty free, is that correct?
As I am preparing to ship demo's, I want to take precautions to ensure that
my program is as safe as possible from being redistributed. I have taken the
following precautions:
1.) Locked the code by making an MDE file from the original MDB
2.) Entered into the On_Load code for the start up form an expiration date
of the demo (I will, at least at first, be distributing on an individual
basis, and intend on changing this date by hand per request).
3.) Created a textstream that records the date the form was last loaded, as
a precaution for those that would alter their calendar (while i think it
would be difficult for someone to locate the text file, I would like to
assign the hidden attribute to it...any suggestions?)
4.) Created a separate textstream of the hard drives serial number, which is
checked and verified each time the starting form is loaded (I've also
included contact information in case someone has upgraded their computer or
hard drive, although I think this is unlikely given the expiration of the
demo).
Can anyone think of any other methods by which I can protect my efforts?
Also, when/if someone wants to purchase the database, do I need to/can I
legally create an EULA?
