I have 3 home computers networked together in a Workgroup using a switch,
and Internet Access is by dialup on the first computer only. The IP on all 3
is manually configured and each can ping the other so all the connections
seem to be good. In the Workgroup the first two computers can view each
others shared files , but the first two cannot even access the 3rd computer
with the error "Precision360" not accessible" --(Precision360 being the name
of the 3rd computer). The 3rd computer can access everyone and see their
shared files.
Computer 1: Win 98SE, single user so no other users at log in, TCP/IP
with(NetBios over TCP/IP grayed out), shared files access
Computer 2: Win XP Pro ( no SP), administrator log in, TCP/IP with NetBios
over TCP/IP checked, Simple File Sharing checked; also, Guest User Turned On,
Internet Firewall Unchecked
Computer 3: Win XP Pro (SP1), administrator log in, TCP/IP with NetBios over
TCP/IP checked, Simple File Sharing checked; Internet Firewall Unchecked;
Computer name: Precision360"; also has a dongle for NewTek Lightwave, but
when removed, same result as being inaccessible by computers 1 & 2.
Don't know if there are any encrypted files... did not find any so far...but
would it prevent access from the whole computer?
I tried turning off Simple File Sharing to access the Security and Sharing
tabs and have also visited the Computer management area, but I get lost and
don't understand them...so I left turned Simple File Sharing back on in the
Folders.
Anybody got any idea why I can access Computer 3? How do I get permission
to do so if needed?
