Deployment of Outlook 2002 Security forms

I have installed/modified/published the Outlook 2002 Security forms on an
Exchange 2000 sp3 server. The form settings are working with the registry
changes applied to the client workstation, so I know the form settings are
working. The forms are not being propagated through System policies as
described in the procedures. We are running Office XP. We are currently
using the System policy templates Office10.adm and Outlk10.adm. We are using
these templates to enforce other polices, so I know they are working. I have
not found any documentation that mentions any settings in the System Policies
to propagate the security forms through the system policies. Any ideas what
to check next?

What specific system policies are you referring to and what undesired
behavior are you seeing? There are no system policies to propagate forms.

The undesired behavior is that the security settings that are set on the
Outlook Security Form are not propagating to the Desktop client. According
to the Office Admin Pack Readme Documentation -

“If Office was deployed with system policies, the Outlk10.adm file will
automatically pass your customized security settings to client computers each
time users log on to the system. If Office was deployed without system
policies, you must create a new registry key on the client computers. Outlook
will respect this new registry key, even if you are not using policies.â€.

The only way I can get the Security settings to propagate to the Outlook
Desktop client is to apply the registry settings. I know the Outlk10.adm
template in the System Policies is working because we use it to propagate
other Outlook settings.

What a poorly written description! The only thing that the .adm file
propagates is the name and key of the registry setting. It doesn't directly
propagate anything to Outlook.

Are you using Group Policy Objects in Active Directory or a local system
policy?

We are using Group Policy Objects in Active Directory. Thanks for the
clarification. The GPO's do not seem to be making the registry changes to
force Outlook to use the settings on the security form. I can not find any
GPO settings that force the use of the use security forms and as you can see
the instructions for setting up these security forms are very vague. Do you
know if the GPO registry settings are the same as the manual registry
settings?

The policy setting that you need is particularly badly labeled. Look under
User Configuration / Administrative Templates / Microsoft Outlook 2002 /
Tools | Options / Security for the "Outlook virus security settings"
setting.

Policy settings use the same registry values as user preference settings,
but with keys in HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft instead of
HKCU\Software\Microsoft. Open the .adm file in Notepad to see all details.

Thank You, You hit the nail on the head. That was the undocumented switch I
was looking for.
