Derive an equation from plotted data

Using Office/Excel 2003, is here a way to derive a formula from experimental
data plotted on a line graph?

For equal-time-interval time sequence data, you could use a Line chart type.
For paired XY data, use an XY (Scatter) chart type.

Create the chart, click on a point to select the data series, and choose Add
Trendline from the Chart main menu or from right-click shortcut menu. Choose
a trendline form, and on the Options dialog check the box for displaying the
equation. On the chart, select the equation textbox, and click Increase
Decimal to show more significant digits.

Other methods besides Add Trendline are worksheet functions and the
Regression tool.
