Deselecting paragraph

I have the latest version of Office (12.2.1), and in Word, if I triple-click to select a paragraph, I must click outside that paragraph in order to deselect it. In previous versions, and in PowerPoint in this version, I can click once in the selected paragraph to deselect it. Is this a bug? Or did someone at MS decide it was a feature?

Clarification: I can't deselect ANY selection except by clicking outside the selection. If I click-and-drag or double-click, same behavior.

I'm not seeing anything of the sort here in 2 separate installations. The
behavior is as you describe expecting it to be. Clicking within the selected
paragraph deselects as usual regardless of how the selection was made.

Is this happening in one specific document? All documents? What additional
details can you provide?

All Word documents. docx and doc. I also checked some documents that hadn't previously been opened with 12.2.2 and the same thing happens. I am running 10.5.8, and I honestly don't recall whether it happened with 10.5.7.

One other odd thing ... if I select something, then try to deselect it by clicking in it, when I close the document, Word asks me if I want to save changes. If I open the same document, select the same paragraph, and deselect by clicking outside the paragraph, Word closes it without any intercept.

Nope, not seeing anything of the sort -- Tiger (10.4.11) or Leopard (10.5.8)
both running Office 12.2.0/1 [there is no 12.2.2 (yet) :)]

When's the last time you restarted your Mac? That's the first thing I'd try
along with a repair of disk permissions. It most likely won't fix anything
but at least it helps level the playing field. Then:

1- Launch Word while holding Shift to see if the behavior changes.

2- Log out then hold Shift while logging in... Any difference?

3- Try running Word in a different User Account... What happens?

Reply with the results of all three procedures.
