Design Template not applying on some computers

R

Robert Johansen

Hi all,

Here's the problem: my company created a design template for a
particular slide show. However, when I open this slide show on some
machines (windows or Mac) the design template is not applied, and is
nowhere to be found if I try to browse for it. This leaves each slide with
missing words and colors, which of course is unacceptable. Strangely
enough, if I browse to any non-custom design template, the missing
words appear (but of course the colors and design are completely
wrong).

On other computers, the design template is applied exactly like it
should be. Any ideas, besides switching to a M$ competitor?

Hi Robert
I have run into this several times. When I find it, its cause someone
applied a design template to individual slides and not the whole
presentation.

If you don¹t have the design template stored on your hard drive, then you
need that to make the changes to your deck. PPT needs to reference another
sperate file to apply a Design Style.

Heres what I do:
1. go to slide view. Strip away all but the title and one other slide [it
can be anything but a title slide].
2. do a SAVE AS and make that FILE TYPE a Design Template. Give it a Name
such as "My Company Design Template" and Save it to any path/folder you
want, just as long as you know where it is.
3. Re-open the file you want to apply the Design to.
4. go to FORMAT and SLIDE DESIGN and apply the "My Company Design Template"
to the deck and make sure you hit the APPLY TO ALL SLIDES option.
That should do the trick.

The easy way is to simply make a copy of the file with the design template
you want, then open the original and go to FORMAT and SLIDE DESIGN and
apply the "My Company Design Template" to the deck and make sure you hit
the APPLY TO ALL SLIDES option.

One last thing, im on a mac but the same thing applies to windows.

Good luck, Scott
