design view for forms

I created a form in Word and saved it. Now, when I open
it I can't get it out of design view.

You need to run it. From VBA, press F5. If you want to call the form from
Word itself, you need to write a macro to display the it:

Dim pForm as frmMyForm (whatever your form is called)

Set pForm = new frmMyForm
pForm.Show
Set pForm = nothing
