desktop alert

When I set up my smpt mailbox, outlook added another folder which i named as
my primary "inbox" - it is now my default inbox...and, i deleted the other
(original) inbox folder.

With this set up...even though my smpt mailbox is noted as the default
mailbox in "email accounts" I am still not able to get desktop alerts. I
know in the help file that it indicates that desktop alerts are only for
default inboxes ...but, now that this is my default inbox why aren't alerts
showing?
