Desktop Alerts

M

Manlio

I have been hunting from long time to find at least what is causing
the desktop alerts stop working.
Recently I reached the conclusion that this problem arise together
with the inability of Outlook to close quickly.
Therefore I am looking for the solution to the last trouble.
Many reports say that when other programs claim to use Outlook
resources or files the closing is delayed. So I disabled all the
add-ons and I checked to uninstall any program included the the issued
list of known "trouble generators".
Some others suggest to check or load a registry reg file to set the
desktop alerts timing and settings, and also that solution was
useless.
I will continue testing and trying, but if someone have suggestions I
will gladly use them !

Hi Brian,
You'll find the Outlook version no. in a previous msg.
About what I did to hunt the failure ... I am unable to rebuild the
many attempts I made. Nevertheless I may say that when I have the
Desktop alerts not working, then if I close Outlook 2007 Its icon
remains for long time indication the closing has been locked by
something. Then to close definitely Outlook I have to launch it again
(despite the previous closing is on its run) and then again close the
program, that is immediate. Don't forget I have practically no addins
or other programs interfering with Outlook, according to published
lists.
When I test the desktop alerts during the lock closing phase, they
don't work.
After having regained the fast closing of Outlook, if I test the
desktop alerts they work perfectly.
For the above I argued then there is a relation between the closing
and the desktop alerts.
Hope it's enough clear ... :))

Frustrating
I'm here just to say I have noticed the same exact problem. Alerts do not work accordlying on Outlook closing. If it take long time alerts will stop working next session.
One temporary solution is to KILL outlook if it takes long time to close, when tray icon is gray, just kill the process....

I'm still looking for a serious solution, with no results so far.

Hi Brian,
You'll find the Outlook version no. in a previous msg.
Don't forget I have practically no addins
or other programs interfering with Outlook, according to published
lists.
When I test the desktop alerts during the lock closing phase, they
do not work.
After having regained the fast closing of Outlook, if I test the
desktop alerts they work perfectly.
For the above I argued then there is a relation between the closing
and the desktop alerts.
Hope it is enough clear ... :))

Frustrating
I'm here just to say I have noticed the same exact problem. Alerts do not work
accordlying on Outlook closing. If it take long time alerts will stop working next
session.
One temporary solution is to KILL outlook if it takes long time to close, when
tray icon is gray, just kill the process....

I'm still looking for a serious solution, with no results so far.

Bye
Gianni

it is not from outlook closing quickly or slowly, its because outlook
it is not from outlook closing quickly or slowly, its because outlook remains
running when you think you closed it.

Do you have all updates installed?
