"desktop" icon in quick launch causes outlook to close. Why/fix?

I use Win2kPro. When I click the desktop icon quick launch outlook closes.
It's not critical but is annoying as hell. How do I fix this. Figure it must
be a setting somewhere.

For what version of Outlook?
Do you mean other methods of starting Outlook do work? In that case recreate
your shortcut.
