Desktop Icons reorganized after every automatic update

Greetings, I am brand new at this and could best be described as a
cyber-dolt. Forgive me if I mess up.

ISSUE
Every time an auto update is completed on windows.(not specific other
software), I see the pop up flag that says an update was installed and THAT
my computer had been restarted. The Icons have all been reset on my desktop.
I like to have the Icons in specific places so this is an irritation and
time wasting for me.

Please help.

There is a free program that will save desktop icon layout. It works by
right clicking the recycle bin, very handy. I searched my programs but
cannot recall.
Perhaps someone else knows??
