desktop portability

Not sure if this is possible to do. Where I work, we use Windows XP. Whenever
I log onto a new machine, I have to manually add shortcut icons to my desktop
and Quick Launch bar for my frequently used programs, connect to the printers
that are physically nearest me instead of halfway across the building, set up
drive paths to various drives on the network, that sort of thing.

I'm wondering if there's a way to do any or all of these automatically, and
what type of language would best handle this scenario.
