Initial Outlook setup dialog requests update of Desktop Search for proper
operation. Office 12 is installed on xp sp2 system and update fails. I
suspect 'Vista' components required. Can a clean install of desktop search
correct this failure or do I need to wait for 'Vista' beta 2 release?

I installed desktop search beta 3. The KB article is COMPLETELY useless.
Here is what I've found:

- if you had desktop search and a task bar search and you enter anything
you kill explorer.exe
- if you right click the magnifying glass in the right side of the task bar
and select "search now", which launches the GUI you can do searches sometiesm
but more often than not you'll get an explorer crash
- works in OL

Disgraceful that they couldn't get this out and have somehting that works
with XP

um, WDS 3, for now, is only the engine. If you read the reference I gave
you'll see that there is no GUI - that will come in a later release.

Thnaks. What I was commenting on that when they say "no GUI" they don't
mention that running the existing GUI will cause the shell to restart. They
hsould hve explicitly said to unisntall WDS 2.6.5
