DESKTOP SHORT CUTS

I maintain a file for 20 people. If it is created as a short cut on
someone's desk top and I update the file, will it automatically update their
short cut?

The file will be updated. The shortcut will remain as it is unless you
change it. The shortcut, though, should open your updated file if it was set
up correctly.
