Desktop Shortcut Opening Word

T

Tom O'Neill

The following desktop shortcut opens Word but loads my custom .dot template:

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\WINWORD.EXE"(space)"C:\Documents
and Settings\tso\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates\MyCustomTemplate.dot"

However, I want to open Word with a "new document", based on
MyCustomTemplate. I do not want to do it with an autostart macro from
within, but rather right from the desktop. Can it be done?

Hi Tom

Insert the /t switch after the (space) and before the quote mark that starts
the name of the template.

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft
Office\OFFICE11\WINWORD.EXE"(space)/t"C:\Documents and
Settings\tso\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates\MyCustomTemplate.dot"

This and the other switches you can use on the command line are explained at
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=210565.

Hi Tom O'Neill

Use the "/t" switch immediately followed by the full path/name of the template you want to
use for the new document. Don't leave any space between "/t" and the path/name.

Thank you, Jay and Thank You, Peter. The tip works fine, of course ;)
