The following problem cannot be resolved by Dell (I have been told it
originates in my XP Windows Media Centre not having an option to keep user
profiles separate as far as software is concerned (XP Professional apparently
does): when I load software whilst in my own user profile, the loaded
software is available on all other user desktops incl my son's (he is a
limited user, I am the administrator). I do not want him to have access to
the software I am loading, it is not child appropriate. I also do not want to
see what the other users are up to softwarewise. I can remove the shortcut
from my son's desktop, but not the program itself which can still be opened
from "All programs". Dell's Tech Support now advises me to buy and download
additional software called "Snapfiles Folder Lock": I do not think that that
software is appropriate for my simple problem.
Incidentally, I have loaded itunes onto the computer to run my music
library; I am now worried tht due to the aforementioned problem, when my
husband will attempt to load his music library onto the computer, things will
get messy since there is no way we can separate different users' software
from each other.
Just to further complicate things, when I type my software reg number into
Microsoft's website, it tells me it is for XP Professional!!!
