DESPERATE: Lost document when Word Crashed

Hi

I was using word on a very important document, and as i clicked to save word
crashed, and the document has dissapeared from the folder it was in completely

I had been working on it for months so it was a massive thing. So as i went
along i was clicking "save" but now the whole things has gone. Ive searched
for it but it is not there.

I have a backup copy but its a few days old so ive lost a lot of work. Can
anyone give any advice as to how i might be able to get the most recent
version back on my computer? In the folder where it was there is still a
hidden "~$cument.doc" file. But this doesnt open anything.

Im desperated for any advice as to what to do, or where to go for further
help?

Thanks

Hi,

Have you looked throughout your computer for temp files (*.tmp or ~*.tmp)?
Try start -> search -> for flies and folders -> *.tmp
select date, set time back to a litle more than this crash took place

Word did not present an AutoRecovery backup when you restarted it? If so,
it's probably lost for good. But if you had been saving regularly, your last
saved version should not be more than 10-15 minutes old.

Try looking for ANY file in your computer that has a date and time stamp
somewaht nearish to the time of crash - just maybe you'll find something -
elsewise you may have to go back to your oldish backup - sorry...
