desperate to recover emails

Hi,
I have a major problem and am desperate to recover some emails.
I am using outlook 2003 with a couple of pop3 accounts. I have a new
computer so deleted a lot of old emails from outlook before making a backup
of the pst file. I then deleted the pst file and all the other documents
from the computer (Not formatted but just deleted and then emptied the
deleted items box) I think this has gone wrong because when I have tried to
load the backup onto the second computer the only emails I get are from last
year and only 20 of them. There should be 500 or more. I have tried
recovering, repairing, searching for .pst files. I have also tried editing
the pst file with a hex editor and then using scanpst to recover but nothing
has worked. Is there any way that I can get individual emails back from the
HD that must be deleted?
Desperate and thanks.

I forgot to mention that the new PC has 2007 on it but I have also tried
with 2003 too.

What file format should I be searching for to find individually deleted
emails? Can this be done?

Your email messages are all contained in one or more PST files. You may
have backed up the wrong one, or something else may have gone wrong
during the backup - we cannot know what that is or what you did.

Try to recover your deleted PST file with a tool such as
http://www.recuva.com/

Search for any other PST file you may have used (the Control Panel's
Mail applet can tell you what PST files you have been using).

thanks for that.
I have recovered all the pst files that can be found but still am unable to
find any recent emails. What might have happened is all the emails were
deleted from Outlook first then the PST file deleted (To clean up the old
PC). Can emails that have been deleted from Outlook be recoeved in this
case? I have tried using EasyRecovery Pro to find them but to no avail.

When emails are deleted from the inbox and then from the deleted items box
is there no way of recovering them? No way at all? They are very important
so the cost isn't really an issue.

Thanks for that Brian but alas, that has already been tried and it hasn't
come up with anything from 2008. Very weird this problem. The customer isn't
very happy and I am slightly stumped as to any explanation.
