Hello
I don't know if the following is doable but it will surely save a fair
bit of time and resources were it so.
Background
Online distance learning from public funded College
Training covers materials in Office 97, 2000, 2003
Training is to adult levels 1, 2 and 3
Learners complete training from work or home
Problem
Quite a few enquirers are very new to computers and computing in general.
As such they are often not able to discern the differences between Word,
Works or Windows although some may be quite skilled professionals in
other sectors but need to take IT onboard for one reason or another.
Some may be unskilled seeking skills or maybe even first qualifications
that they have had an opportunity to gain (realistically)
The problem is that identifying the version of Office (if indeed it is
installed in the first place) often takes skills levels greater than
those that the enquirer has.
Question
Is there any easy way to automatically detect the version of Office
installed (if it is installed) and for such automatic detection to be
initiated by the enquirer.
It would be wonderful if the enquirer were presented with a short report
that they could automatically forward to the College if they wished.
I could then base offering a course or selecting appropriate modules
(Access, Excel, PowerPoint and so forth) based on the strength of an
absolutely accurate report sent in willingly by an enquirer.
Anything that replaces a relatively unskilled account would be wonderful.
Is it doable?
