Detecting Cell Format Using Named Formula

K

KL

Hi there,

About a year ago I found in the Internet a tutorial on how to create a
formula that would detect some of cell formats. It used some long and
complex functions and named formulas. Maybe somebody knows what I am taking
about. If yes, could you please point at the source web site as I seem to
have lost the link somehow.

Many thanks,
KL

KL,

I am making a wild guess, but I think you are referring the =Cell(info_type,
reference) function.

For example,

=Cell("format")

Look up Cell function in XL's help and there is plenty of informatin there.

Hope that helps.

Regards,
Kevin

Hi Kevin,

Thanks for your reply. Your guess is very close, but not exactly it. However
it helped me to find an article that uses exactly the technique I was
talking about:
http://www.j-walk.com/ss/excel/usertips/tip045.htm
Unfortunately, Excel Help doesn't seem to provide info on the usage of the
function so I still need to find the tutorial. I think the named formula did
recognise things like bold, italic, etc. I tried to google David Hager, who
seems to be author, but found nothing. I wonder if John Walkenbach (whose
VBA book I am reading and re-reading constantly) can help.

Thanks a lot.
