Determining the version of Microsoft Office

G

Grant Donald

I have a large network running various versions of
Microsoft Office.

I need to do an audit (for licensing) of all Versions
running on my network. Also need to identify from the ID
string what version it is i.e Office XP standard path
version x.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

In the Help menu of the office programs there is an option for "About
Microsoft XXXX" (where XXXX is the program name).

All of the information you require is there.

The point being I don't want to do this 2500 times, and if
it can be checked automatically :)

Check the Microsoft scripting (windows scripting host) newsgroup. I'm
betting one of those guys has had to do this and has a script that will
work.

Open an Office Application (Word for instance), go to Help, then About Word.
Your info should be there.

Is this the tool you are looking for?

(Of course, the URL wraps so you know what to do.)

Yes, the problem is the number of PC's that have to be
covered in this way. I would need to do it automatically
via a login script etc.
