determining visio versions

Is the a good way to be able to tell the version of Visio
that was used to create a .VSD file? I'm particularly
interested in being able to tell the difference between
Visio 5 and Visio 2002 files so I can use the appropriate
automation techniques.

Thanks...

That's going to be difficult because Visio only exposes a single version of
the document matching the version of the app itself. Any documents created
in prior releases are automatically converted before being exposed to
automation. Therefore, in Visio 2002 all opened files are Visio 2002
documents, even if they were authored in an older version of Visio.

I have developed some software that uses Visio
automation. Some of our customers have Visio 5 while
others have Visio 2002. I can link the interface files
for either version with my software and they work fine
however, I'd like to have one .exe file that will work
with either version. Do you have any suggestions what
might be the best way to approach this?

Thanks...

Put your own version stamp in the document. Your app can get the current
version from Visio when it is launched. Create a User-defined cell on the
Page and place this value there.
