Devanagari font

Hi,

I'm using XP and Office 2000 Professional. The Character
Map shows a font called Mangal, which is a Devanagari
(Hindi) font. But I can't paste characters from this font
into Word, and when I try to use Mangal in Word, I just
see Roman sans serif characters.

Is this because the font is exotic? Is it because it's an
OpenType font? What can I do to use these characters?
(Presumably thousands of people in India are using them as
I write.)
