Developing Leave of Absence Forms-advice needed

New this week to Infopath. Need advice on what to study and how to best
develop and deploy a Leave of Absence form for our department.

In order to acquaint myself with Infopath this week, I have pulled each
employee's accruals (vacation, comp, sick) from the AS400 to an Access db.
The db will be updated at the beginning of each pay period. I designed a
form based on the Access db which displays the accruals in a repeating
table. I added another repeating table for employees to request leave and
includes dates, hours, type of leave. The hours requested are subtracted
from the hours accrued and the balance is displayed if the hours are
available. (otherwise the request cannot be processed)

Here is what I'd like to accomplish:
Employee requests leave.
Totals from X number of forms are accumulated (to prevent employees
requesting more time off than they have accrued)
Use digital signatures for the approval process (workflow)
Capability for managers to view the forms and digitally sign either from
their Blackberries, email, or web. - OR - simply notify managers that forms
need their approval.
Store the forms based on the payperiod (so the payroll clerk can print the
forms for payroll processing).
Print completed forms as needed.
ETC....

Would it be best to continue as I have begun or would this work better using
a web service or other method. You input will be greatly appreciated.
