Development server problems

Hi All,

We are currently without a DB Officer, who would usually help with this sort
of thing, but I wanted to restore the live DB onto the Development Server. I
did this from SQL Server Enterprise Manager to Databases, ProjectServer
right-click\All Tasks\Restore Backup, and used a backup of the live database
that I had made just a few mins before. The Restoration seemed to work AOK,
but now I cannot log onto MSP or PWA Development server. The message states:

"Project was unable to log you on at this time because the Project Server
database cannot be accessed. Please try again later or check with your
Project Server administrator. (5001)"

and the log comes up with the following:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Microsoft Project Server Tracing Eventlog Provider
Event Category: None
Event ID: 2
Date: 18/08/2006
Time: 14:28:00
User: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM
Computer: BNTDEV
Description:
File: C:\Office\devsp\project\WebClient\source\utility\pjadorsutil2.cpp
Line: 1691
Error Number: 0x80004005
Description:
Assert Detected. The error code was also
included.

___________________________________

Component: Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server
Description:
Cannot open database requested in login
'ProjectServer'. Login fails.

Any suggestions are very welcome - I'm in a bit of a fix!

Cheers,

John

Hi John,

Have you tried this KB Article:
How to back up, schedule, and restore a Microsoft Project Server
database
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/323330/

You will also need to use this tool to reconfigure the Project Server
configuration.

Project Server 2003: EditSite Tool

Good Luck and let us know how it turns out

Hi Rolly,

Thanks for the advice. I was worried initially about deleting the
MSProjectServerUser and MSProjectUser roles, because I didn't know the
passwords. However, I found a tool that showed me the passwords from the Edit
Site Utility, and so took the plunge and deleted them. I didn't even need the
passwords to reapply these roles, and now it works AOK.

So basically the difference was that after restoring, I deleted those roles
and recreated them - now it's all good and ready for me to experiment on =)

Cheers,

John
