I want to disable Research. I use ALT+Click and drag to highlight blocks of
text and am getting annoyed that every time Research pops up.

From your Word help
On the Tools menu, click Research.
In the Research task pane, click Research options.
Do one or more of the following:
To activate or remove research services, select or clear the check boxes you
want, and then click OK.
To add research services, click Add Services, select or type the Internet
address for the service you want, and then click Add. The service is
automatically enabled for searching, and it will appear in the Search for list
the next time you open the Research task pane.

I have already removed all the services from it. That does not stop it from
popping up however. What I am wanting is for it not to show up at all. Thanks
for your input.

The Alt+Click shortcut is an Office level one that trumps Word shortcuts.
One of the common causes that pops up the research pane is when an Alt+Drag operation becomes an Alt+Click.

You may want to check with the folks in the Word VBA discussion group for help with a VBA solution that may had the research pane
that might be possible.

I find that as long as I am careful to "Click" first, then "Alt", the
&*#*@*!%! Research pane does not pop up. So I can drag and position
boxes and columns okay. However, this won't help if you have a
function that requires Alt then Click, or Alt then Double-Click.
